Support Groups Overview

What To Expect

  • Free of charge for Durham County families
  • Led by trained Parent Educators and facilitators
  • Offered in English and Spanish, in person and online
  • Designed to be inclusive, supportive, and culturally responsive

Why It Matters

Building community is at the heart of everything we do. When parents feel supported, they’re more confident, less stressed, and better equipped to nurture their children’s growth and well-being.

“Circle of Parents gave me a place to share, listen, and realize I’m not alone. It helped me grow as a parent and as a person.”

Why Join A Support Group?

Our support groups are designed to reduce isolation and build confidence by helping parents connect with others who face similar challenges. Each group offers a chance to:

  • Share experiences in a safe, judgment-free environment
  • Learn from other parents’ perspectives and successes
  • Gain practical tools for communication and stress management
  • Feel supported, valued, and connected within the community

Whether you’re a new parent or caring for older children, you’ll find a space that encourages growth, empathy, and hope.

Programs and Groups Offered

Our support groups provide opportunities for families to connect in different ways. Our current offerings include:

  • Circle of Parents: A peer-led support group where parents come together to discuss real-life challenges, celebrate successes, and find encouragement. Meetings focus on open discussion and mutual support rather than formal instruction.
  • Nurturing Fathers Program: A 13-week class and support circle designed specifically for dads, offering practical tools and a space to share experiences about parenting, discipline, and connection.
  • Parent Peer Circles and Seasonal Groups: Throughout the year, Welcome Baby may host additional group sessions and family meetups that focus on topics such as emotional regulation, self-care, and community connection.
  • Breastfeeding Support Group: A welcoming space for new parents to share experiences, ask questions, and receive guidance on feeding and caring for their babies. Led by trained staff, the group focuses on encouragement, problem-solving, and building confidence in your breastfeeding journey.
