The Giving Closet
Annual Coat Drive
Every Friday
Our Giving Closet is open every Friday by appointment, providing free essentials such as diapers, clothing, and baby gear to Durham County families. Appointments are required and available to families every other month.
Fall/Winter
Help keep Durham’s children warm during the cold months by donating new and gently used coats, hats, gloves, and scarves for ages newborn through 8 years. This community-wide drive runs throughout the winter season, with collection bins at local businesses, schools, and partner sites.
Back-to-School Event
Holiday Pop-Up
Summer
Each summer, we help families prepare for the new school year by distributing backpacks, school supplies, and educational resources. This event ensures every child starts school ready to learn, grow, and succeed with confidence. Families also receive information about our parenting programs and community resources.

Sock Drive
Yarn Drive
September
Our September Sock Drive collects new socks for children and families in need. It’s an impactful way to provide warmth, comfort, and care as cooler weather approaches. Each pair donated helps ensure that local families have one more essential covered.
Ongoing
We collect yarn year round during donation hours. Any length, weight, or color is welcome. Donated yarn is used to knit blankets and hats for local families through our partnership with Durham County Cooperative Extension and the Butner Correctional Facility.
