Accessibility Statement

Welcome Baby wants every Durham family to be able to find and use the information on this website, including people with disabilities.

Our commitment

We work to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. This is the standard set by the U.S. Department of Justice in its ADA Title II rule for the websites of state and local governments.

What we have done on this site

  • Each page has one main heading, and the headings below it are in order, so screen reader users can move around the page easily.
  • Images have text alternatives that describe them.
  • Everything can be used with a keyboard, and you can always see where you are on the page.
  • A “Skip to main content” link lets keyboard users jump past the menu.
  • Text and background colors have enough contrast to meet the AA standard.
  • Every form field has a label. If something is missing or incorrect, the error message is announced by screen readers.
  • The whole site is in English and Spanish, and the language of each page is marked so screen readers pronounce it correctly.
  • The High contrast and Larger text buttons at the top of every page let you change how the site looks.
  • The site works with screen readers and when the page is zoomed to 200%.
  • The site respects your device’s reduced-motion setting.

Known limitations

Some flyers, PDFs and posts from partner organizations that we link to may not be fully accessible. We do not control those files. When we share a class flyer, the class information is always also given as text on our website.
